Louis Cai, M.D.

Dr. Louis Cai, is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist with specialty training in vitreoretinal surgery. He graduated summa cum laude from a combined BS/MD program at the University of Miami.

He completed his ophthalmology residency at the esteemed Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. He received specialty training in vitreo­retinal surgery at Bascom Palmer Institute in Miami, consistently ranked by U.S. News as the number one eye hospital in the country.

He treats medical and surgical retinal conditions including retinal tears, retinal detachments, age related macular degeneration, secondary lens placement, and diabetic retinopathy. He has coauthored over thirty papers and presentations, and has a particular interest in the intersection of artificial intelligence and medicine.

He is the producer and cohost of Straight From the Cutters Mouth, a Retina Podcast (retinapodcast.com), the longest running podcast for vitreoretinal surgeons, and is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Specialists, and the Vit Buckle Society.

Originally from Florida, Dr. Cai is fluent in English and proficient in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. Outside of clinic, he is the cofounder of Cosign AI, a digital health startup (co-sign.ai), and enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and son.
